Like My Heart

if I were to look like my heart

it wouldn’t be beauty as you know it

it would be uncut grasses
and wild flowers

it would be thorns and roses

it would be fallen palms and overripe fruits

the dark berries, sweet and poisonous

it would be unleveled ground

and fast flowing waters

streams rivers oceans

if I were to look like my heart

it would look like rocks

and at the same time would look like all the softness you’ve never seen

all the love you never had

all the pain you never felt

all the healing you never did

all the scars that never faded

it would look so much like you, like yours

and me, and mine

if I were to look like my soul

it wouldn’t be beauty as you know it

it would be rough and wild

would still be beautiful

but most of all it would really be me.
